The PNT Standards Consortium is a not-for-profit membership organization focused on maintaining, developing, and improving open Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) standards for the benefit of the navigation community. Formed in 2026 by founding members IS4S, Leidos, and TRX Systems with support from ISTO, the Consortium brings industry, government, and academia together in a collaborative environment to advance interoperable PNT standards and encourage broader ecosystem adoption.

The Consortium provides long-term governance and community-driven development for PNT standards, including pntOS and ASPN. By transitioning the ownership and custodianship of PNT standards to a collaborative, impartial setting, PNT SC is working to ensure these standards evolve as community assets rather than being associated with any single company.

The Consortium’s mission is to maintain and develop PNT standards to meet community needs, with a vision to propagate these standards for navigation system research, development, and deployment across government and commercial activities. ASPN and pntOS are helping lay the foundation for a more interoperable PNT ecosystem, with participation from the broader community helping ensure future requirements reflect real-world needs.

Members have opportunities to help develop future changes to standards, identify priorities for their evolution and implementation, resolve issues in standards ecosystem software, improve documentation, and promote expanded adoption across industry. The Consortium also provides a forum for identifying industry challenges, incorporating community feedback, and simplifying the use of standards to encourage implementation.

Organizations across industry, government, and academia are encouraged to participate and help shape the continued evolution of open PNT standards.
